A panoramic shot. The glacier advances down the valley and completely bisects the lake. At this time of year water flows under and through the ice tongue but some years the flow is obstructed and the upper part of the lake can be several metres higher the the lower. Restoration of flow can be quite abrupt and dramatic.
This time we got to take a walk on the glacier. This is Mary with her farrier. He is helping her to secure her crampons. The farrier is actually an Argentine guide and highly skilled ice climber. His grandparents immigrated to Argentina from west Cork. His English is perfectly fluent with a west Cork accent.
